Electroculture is the use of low-level electrical or electromagnetic stimulation — DC current through soil electrodes, atmospheric antennas, earth batteries, and related methods — to try to influence plant growth, germination, and vigor. It's mixed, and we try to be specific about which parts. Some mechanisms (like how electric fields can affect ion movement in soil) are grounded in established chemistry and physics. Specific yield claims — including our own historical ones — range from peer-reviewed research down to single-grower anecdotes. Because that's accurate, and pretending otherwise wouldn't hold up. Grower reports and personal experiments are real and worth documenting, but they aren't controlled trials. We label them as what they are rather than letting repetition or age make them sound more validated than they are — see the My First Experiment and Sunflower+ Project pages for examples.
Electroculture (electrical/electromagnetic stimulation) is Electric Fertilizer's original, longest-documented area of work, dating to 2011. Magnetoculture and pyramid-based methods are newer additions to our current product and research scope with no attestation in our own work before roughly 2020 — we treat them as current-scope topics, not as part of the same 14-year research history as electroculture itself.
A 2013–2014 field project in Old North St. Louis combining electroculture with phytoremediation (using sunflowers to help draw lead out of contaminated soil), done with Washington University's Sam Fox School and the City of St. Louis. Results were real but mixed — see the full case study for what worked, what didn't, and what was never actually measured.
David Wechsler, who began experimenting with electroculture in 2011 and has since written two books, developed the HarvestStorm product line, and built one of the largest electroculture communities online. See About for the full background.
