Metabolic Activation

Domain: plant biology Tags: metabolism, electroculture, atp

Metabolic activation is the umbrella mechanism for a cluster of electroculture-related effects. When plant cells are exposed to exogenous electric fields, the altered transmembrane potential drives faster ion flux through voltage-gated channels, increasing ATP synthesis and accelerating enzymatic reactions throughout the cell. The net result is a compressed developmental timeline, denser foliage, and higher harvestable yield — all consistent with findings in the 2023 PEF vegetable study and the 2025 potato field trial.

This mechanism overlaps with, and is upstream of, more specific mechanisms including Voltage-Dependent Ion Channel Gating and Electroosmotic Nutrient Pumping.
